project 9: issue based art

why i selected this work?

I selected this work because im extremely against capitalism and everything it stands for. Big corporations moving in and taking over and slowly but surely they are going to end up ruling the world. The whole idea of someone standing up really inspires me and makes me realize im not the only person in the world who hates large corporations.

Why do you consider the work to be Postmodern?

its post modern because it the main feature relates back the classic “cornal sanders” KFC logo, and it was made after the modernist period.

What issue is the artist addressing?

This issues it is addressing is the idea of how deadly those types of mass corporations are and how they are slowly killing our economy, also to it could also be addressing how bad the food is for our health.

· What response do you think they want from the viewer?

The response the artist would be trying to engage from the veiwer would be to try to get them thinking about the cold hard realization of what they would be doing if they support industries like these and trying to make the viewer think about who they are supporting and what they would be doing to themselves by eating that crap food

· What formal devices has the artist used to convey their message?

Marcsta’s used the classic KFC logo of the cornel sanders and he has replaced his smiley happy face with a skull to symbolize death and despair. Also to at the bottom right of the corner he used the recycle symbol as a reference back to how they always make themselves sound like there always doing something good for the environment

· What has influenced the artist? Why are they making a work about this issue?

Marcsta’s motivation for busting the mainstream media is to combat what he considers the ‘unbearable, unsustainable terror of disorienting corporate messaging’”

· Do you think the work is successful in conveying the message? Why? Why not?

Yes I believe it is pretty successful, we live in such a ignorant society these days and people have no clue where they where they are throwing their money. And rich fat business men know how to exploit the general public, by making fat unhealthy food convent as possible. and in this simple yet affective message it is able to portray all of those bad things in one simple image. Specially to because it would make people think twice about what they are supporting

· Does your prior knowledge, cultural perspective, political leanings, personal opinions affect your reading of the work? How?

Yes it dose immensely from personal experiences, when I traveled over to Canada last year I would drive down almost any major street and there would be a KFC or Mc Donalds, Wendys, red lobster, Taco Bell sign in plain view. Huge business owned everything, there was hardly any small family owned shops it was all huge companies, just everything you could imagine mass companies like the wall marts and k marts everywhere and everything was so corporatized it made me feel sick. slowly but surely its happening over here to…

project 10: architecture and identity

What is the feature?

The feature of the garden of the Australian dreams i choose was the wooden fence.

Why does it appeal to you?

I choose this because this is a classic Australian iconic symbol and as a little kid i have such fond memories of getting splinters from jumping over a fence identical to this to steal the Nabours fruit. i also choose it because its something that i see almost everyday and i didn’t even realize how iconic it was

What does it reference and why did he include it in the GOAD?

almost every middle class urban house has a fence like this, its the wooden plank fence that separates the world from your very own little slice of heaven called the back yard.

Why is the GOAD considered ‘Postmodern’ landscape architecture?

I think that its considered Postmodern landscape architecture because it refers to other artists work and ideas and its referencing or recreating of others artist pieces is one of the main features that make up postmodernism.,

frames of refrance

spaulding says "all suggest that people have a sensed the presence of a long interlocking spiral at the heart of existence; michelangelo used this in the form in his depiction of god dividing light from darkness as did van gogh in his inspired rendering of a spiral galactic wind which he could never have seen. such an interlocking spiral has now been discovered in the structure of DNA" spauldings interpretation of the work is explaining how he feels that the swirling and turning void in space is linked to our DNA and he thinks somehow van goh knew this. spaulding quotes van goh
"van goh pondered, in his literal but wonderful way: "why should the shining dots of the sky not be as accessible as the black dots on the map of France? if we take a train to get to tarascon or rouen, we take death to reach the stars"
this quote from van goh gives me the impression that he saw that stars are more than just shinning dots dazzling in the night sky there whole knew mystiorus places waiting to be explored and can only be done when our time is up.

my personal opion is that i absolutely love the painting. this is one my favorite paintings and has been for a wile now. all of the swirling colours in the night sky above the dormant town, it leads you to think that there is more going on at night time than we think and a whole new world comes to show its face when the sun goes down and at the same time we dont have a clue what is going on. the dark and light blue colours give it such a mysterious feel about it and the dark figure of the left is a mysterious as well is it a tree or is it a tower you just dont know. night time is my favorite time of the day because people flock to there little shelters to keep safe from the dark unknown and this picture portrays this perfectly with the small house and th huge dark unknown

is it any good?

Gina Matchitt, Patikitiki I and II (detail) 2007, recycled computer keys on board
From object magzine
Photo: Michael roth
its a black and wight image of hundreds of old keys from recycled keyboards glued into a repetition patern onto boards. The compostion of the keys has a message in the form of "Tukutuku pattering" normaly thay are ornamental panels often woven. Apart from looking very nice thay also have a symbolic meaning of people, places, histories and experiences.
like carvings thay are a mode of communication linking the past to the presant and the future. Insted of useing traditional material shes decided to use a more modern approach and uses key boards, becuse now we live in a more digital world.
